About

The church building we currently occupy was dedicated on June 16, 1940.  The building is handicap accessible and has a seating capacity of 150+ with classrooms on two floors and a fellowship hall in the basement.   The church is a T-shaped building with simple, but graceful Gothic lines.  Over the years our church has had a number of pastors under appointment, sponsored Vacation Bible School, and was formerly the distribution point for the Dudley Lacey Food Pantry.  Many confirmations, professions of faith, weddings, and funerals have taken place in our sanctuary in addition to our sermons, and the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion.

The Methodist Church in Windfall, Indiana has a long and storied history dating back to 1853 beginning with a circuit riding preacher who helped to establish the first church in Windfall.  The congregation had a strong religious fervor and was very vocal in their commitment to the Lord.  Church services were led by exhorters, local preachers, and occasionally a regular circuit preacher.  Later the church meetings were moved to a location in Windfall called ‘Five Point’ while plans for a church building were developed.  The first Windfall Methodist church was built in 1873 at a cost of $1,800 and had a seating capacity of 300 people.  The building was a splendid testimony to the thrift and enterprise of the community.  The church was opened and shared with those of the Baptist faith and other denominations who spread the evangelical truth.   Many revivals were held in the little church building.

Over a number of years, with the growth of the town of Windfall to over one thousand people, a new church was needed.  The Methodist Episcopal Church was dedicated on September 28, 1913.  Unfortunately on Memorial Day, May 30, 1938, the church was destroyed by a fire which started in the church organ.  While the church was being rebuilt, services returned to the previous church building.
